Behavioural Epidemiology
The Behavioural Epidemiology team conducts original research, collates evidence and develops public health intelligence across a range of crosscutting issues including alcohol use, violence, recreational drug use and risky sexual behaviour, focusing on promoting and protecting health in nightlife environments. The team’s work includes:
Violence
- Working with the World Health Organization to support and develop violence prevention in the UK and internationally, through CPH’s status as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Violence Prevention.
- Collating and disseminating information on alcohol-related violence in nightlife through the Global Violence Prevention Alliance working group on youth violence, alcohol and nightlife, chaired at CPH.
- Aiding local and national agencies to develop services for violence victims by evaluating service provision, such as Specialist Domestic Violence Courts and services for intimidated witnesses.

Club Health
- Hosting biennial international Club Health conferences.
- Working with international agencies to promote development of safer nightlife environments and disseminate evidence on effective interventions to reduce harm in nightlife.
- Being the UK lead for European research group IREFREA-focusing on youth risk and nightlife health.

The Trauma and Injury Intelligence Group (TIIG)
- Bringing together trauma data from various emergency services in Merseyside and Cheshire, including Accident & Emergency data.
- Monitoring intentional and unintentional injuries across Merseyside to inform local policy and practice, for example targeting violence prevention interventions in at risk areas and communities.
- Identifying alcohol related accident and emergency trauma and injury attendances for informing local prevention strategies.
- Supporting other areas to develop local injury surveillance systems.
