Charlotte has recently begun the first year of an MPhil to transfer to PhD that she is completing under the supervision of Jim McVeigh, Dr Conan Leavey and Dr Marie Claire Van Hout (Waterford Institute of Technology, Ireland). The project, titled, ‘Exploration of the female use of human enhancement drugs’ will focus on gathering evidence relating to the extent and characteristics of the use of muscle building drugs (including anabolic steroids and growth hormone) within the gym culture. The research will enable the identification of risks and potential harms together with the development of an appropriate public health response.
Charlotte has previously worked within the fitness industry as a personal trainer and nutritionist and has developed a keen interest in the use of performance enhancers. She holds a first class BA (Hons) in Social Science, a PGCert in Social Science Research Methods and an MSc in Exercise & Nutrition Science.
