Jean M. Breny is Professor and Chair of the Department of Public Health at Southern Connecticut State University, in New Haven, Connecticut. She has been on the faculty since 2000 and currently teaches undergraduate and graduate-level community health education courses, including courses on community health assessments and programme planning and evaluation. Jean received her PhD in Health Behaviour/Health Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2000) and her MPH in Community Health Education from San Jose State University (1994). Through her scholarship, she aims to eliminate health disparities through community-based participatory action research that informs public health practice and is committed to work that helps us to understand how social and cultural factors affect individual health behaviours.
Prof Breny has been instrumental in developing the collaborative relationship between the Department of Public Health at Southern Connecticut University and the Public Health Institute at LJMU. She co-supervises LJMU/SCSU PhD students as well as actively leading on the development of joint modules and programmes and delivering seminars to PHI staff and students when visiting the UK.
