The sexual health team provides public health intelligence and undertakes original research across a broad range of sexual health related topics.
Sexual health intelligence
- Enhanced HIV surveillance for the North West, covering care from HIV clinics, voluntary services and social services, with twice-yearly reports and an interactive online primary care trust and local authority database (www.nwpho.org.uk/HIV)
- Enhanced surveillance of sexually transmitted infections for Cheshire and Merseyside, providing twice yearly reports on prevalence by primary care trust
- Ad hoc intelligence reports, such as sexual health indicators and ten years of monitoring HIV
Original research, including:
- Risk behaviour associated with the Greater Manchester syphilis outbreak
- Consultation on establishment of a managed zone for sex trade workers in Liverpool
- Health implications for vulnerable groups with HIV
- Health professionals’ views on implementing Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidance on preventing sexually transmitted infections
- Evidence reviews (for NICE) and local needs assessments
