I am a researcher in violence and injury, my role involves primary and secondary research towards preventing injuries and violence, at a local, national and international level.
I also work on behalf of the Trauma and Injury Intelligence Group (TIIG), collecting, analysing and reporting on accident/injury data across Merseyside and Cumbria. Sources of data for this project include Accident and Emergency Departments, Ambulance, fire, police and Hospital Episode Statistics.
I am currently working on the assessment of a local Witness Intimidation prevention programme, and overseeing a systematic literature review of violence prevention methods.
Before taking up post I studied for my MSc in Biology at the University of Sheffield. I then went on to do a part time Public Health (Analysis) diploma at Liverpool John Moores University whilst working as a Public Health Analyst in the NHS. Currently, I am carrying out a dissertation towards my Masters in Public Health Analysis.

This TIIG briefing identifies changes in assault attendances to the 17 Emergency Departments (EDs) in Cumbria, Lancashire and Merseyside during the 2006 World Cup. Is shows that on days on which England played there were substantial increases in assault cases presenting at EDs across the North West Region. The TIIG examined the effects of the World Cup in 2006 on assault presentations at EDs in the Region in order to better understand the potential impact of the 2010 World Cup period on assaults and health service pressures.
