Substance Use
Centre for Public Health (CPH), Liverpool John Moores University has an international reputation for its development of substance use intelligence systems, evaluation, evidence review and original research.

The team’s work includes:

National Collaborating Centre for Drug Prevention
  • NCCDP is a research partnership between the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence and the Centre for Public Health.
  • Maintains a broad network of experts in drug misuse theory and practice.
  • Helps build the evidence base for drug prevention by identifying the most effective characteristics of programmes and interventions.
  • Aims are to inform national and local policy and practice on drug misuse and provide guidance for those delivering services.

NCCDP

Monitoring & Intelligence
  • The National Drug Treatment Monitoring System (NDTMS) is the official method of monitoring the extent and nature of structured drug treatment in England. The Centre for Public Health has developed the first integrated alcohol treatment monitoring system which has been incorporated into the North West NDTMS. NDTMS   
  • The Inter Agency Drug Misuse Database (IAD) supports the need for local information on drug misuse across Merseyside & Cheshire. IAD
  • The Centre for Public Health is responsible for the monitoring of the Drug Interventions Programme (DIP) across three Regions of England. DIP
UK Focal Point on Drugs
  • Based jointly at the Centre for Public Health and the Department of Health.
  • Provides detailed data and information to the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction.
  • CPH is responsible for the United Kingdom’s contribution to the Exchange on Drug Demand Reduction Action (EDDRA) database.
